Polygamy Panjandrum (Tres)

For anyone looking for a detailed legal analysis of the odds of the polygamy prohibition withstanding a Charter challenge, I strongly recommend Beverley Baines' piece in The Lawyers Weekly.  She concludes that Section 293 of the Criminal Code is unlikely to be deemed Chater-compliant, and she also notes that the federal Civil Marriage Act likely precludes any move towards full legalization (as distinct from decriminalization) of polygamous marriage (though I wonder how that might square with the provisions in various provinces which permit recognition of foreign-performed polygamous marriages).  Finally, she notes that the Law Reform Commission of Canada recommended in 1985 that polygamy be decriminalized - which further upends the Steyn/Warren rhetoric that this entire discussion is occurring solely because of teh gayz.

Well have fun debating yourself, libertarian freak, I think I speak for most conservatives in saying we simply don't have time to explain everything to you blank slates anymore. We've heard "why do you feel threatened by two men in a loving relationship" and similar vomit inducing instances of illogic too many times.

Debate does not exist in nature, by the way. It is inherently statist, presupposing a state which jealously guards its monopoly on violence. Hunter gatherers don't debate; they kill. If a libertarian and I were the last two people on the face of the planet, and the libertarian commenced with a serious of libertarian style arguments, I would interpret them as prima facie evidence of hostility representing a clear and present danger to my person, and would very quickly become the last person on the planet. Why give a known degenerate a chance to slit my throat in my sleep?

I think we should move towards an economic boycott of the "what harm could it do?" set, if such a thing can be constructed legally. We've established enough bad faith, hatred of western civilization, and hatred of the overwhelming majority of Canadian citizens on their part, debate seems an insufficiently robust response to a web of cancerous cells dedicated to destroying Canada and western civilization.
